Tomb Raider I-III Remastered has just been unveiled for PC, PlayStation, and Xbox, bringing joy to fans as they can now relive Lara Croft's classic adventures with enhanced graphics.
The Tomb Raider franchise, undoubtedly one of the most beloved and iconic video game series of all time, owes much of its success to its charismatic protagonist, Lara Croft.
The original Tomb Raider game made its debut way back in 1996, gracing platforms like SEGA Saturn, PlayStation, and MS-DOS. Since then, Lara Croft's Indiana Jones-inspired escapades have continued to captivate the hearts of gamers across generations.
For quite a while, fans have been clamoring for a modern-era remaster of the original Tomb Raider trilogy. Well, Tomb Raider enthusiasts, your wishes have been answered. In a recent Nintendo Direct announcement, it was revealed that the original Tomb Raider trilogy is receiving a comprehensive remaster in a single collection. Aspyr, known for their work on porting titles like Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic, will be handling the remasters, extending the excitement to Nintendo Switch and mobile gamers.
The description for Tomb Raider I-III Remastered reads: "Follow the iconic Lara Croft as she travels the world, confronting deadly foes and uncovering perilous myths. Experience these classics with upgraded graphics, with the option to switch to the original polygonal look anytime you desire."
Based on the announcement trailer, the remastered games in the collection seem to faithfully retain their original polygonal visuals while benefiting from substantial upgrades in character models and environmental textures. Notably, the collection preserves the nostalgic yet somewhat clunky gameplay and the beloved soundtrack, delivering an authentic experience for long-time fans.
A standout feature is the ability for players to seamlessly switch between the original visuals and the enhanced remastered graphics. Additionally, the collection will include all previously released DLC and secret levels from the original PC versions, such as 'The Unfinished Business' (Tomb Raider), 'The Gold Mask' (Tomb Raider II), and Tomb Raider III.
Currently announced for the Nintendo Switch, fans hope that the remastered collection will also make its way to PlayStation and Xbox platforms in the near future. Mark your calendars for the release date of Tomb Raider I-III Remastered on February 14, 2024, which coincidentally falls on Lara Croft's birthday. Happy adventuring!
